Through the following areas of service,
your gift to United Way not only provides needed services to people,
it allows United Way to continue the many facets of service to our
community, its people and our agencies.
BUILDING COMMUNITY BY FOSTERING
PARTNERSHIPS AND NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES
United Way brings together people in our community who are from
different ethnic, racial, educational and income groups. Retired
members of our community, company executives, teachers, professionals,
plant workers, bankers, competing business representatives, city
and county government employees, and many others, come together
as United Way and jointly work to meet needs of people in Iredell
County. United Way also provides a network for community agencies
to work with one another to ensure services are provided in an efficient
and effective manner.
SOLVING COMMUNITY PROBLEMS BY MONITORING
NEEDS AND OFFERING SOLUTIONS
Your United Way strives to identify community needs and acts to
meet those needs. United Way periodically conducts community needs
and resource assessment to determine areas of duplicated service
or gaps in services needed in our community.
PROMOTING VOLUNTEERISM
United Way constantly recruits volunteers to give our citizens the
opportunity to address community issues. We are a volunteer-based
organization and could not exist without local volunteers. United
Way also works throughout the year to recognize outstanding community
volunteers celebrating National Volunteer Week. United Way's Information
and Referral Service/Volunteer Iredell serves as a Volunteer Center,
matching people wanting to volunteer with agencies needing volunteer
help.
SERVING AS ONE CALL FOR HELP
United Way of Iredell County houses and manages a human services
clearinghouse, the Information & Referral Service of Iredell,
which links people in need of services with the appropriate programs
or agencies to help them. The service is funded by United Way of
Iredell County, the Mooresville/Lake Norman United Way, Iredell
County government, and the Town of Mooresville. Call (704) 872-2900.
DISTRIBUTING FUNDS TO LOCAL AGENCIES
The United Way Community Investment is conducted annually by a diverse
group of community volunteers who are often United Way contributors.
Volunteers review agencies' requests for funds, budgets and financial
information, community needs and services provided by each agency
to meet human need in our community. This process ensures that each
United Way gift is spent in an efficient way to meet as many needs
as possible in our community.
HOLDING A SINGLE, COMMUNITY-WIDE FUNDRAISING
CAMPAIGN FOR UNITED WAY AND LOCAL AGENCIES
Each year United Way conducts one community-wide campaign to raise
funds to support United Way and local agencies. This helps reduce
the year-round fundraising in our community and helps our agencies
spend more of their time helping others and less raising funds needed
to operate.
